THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES WON THE WORLD SERIES LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I turned on the game about 9:00 pm and watched as our pitchers continually struck out the Tampa Bay Rays. When Brad Lidge got to the mound for the final inning, I held my breath. He was 41 for 41 for the regular season and 7 for 7 in the playoffs so it was a pretty good bet that we had the game in the bag. Even so I was scared that Tampa Bay would score at least one run. When he pitched the last out and dropped to his knees, I sat there in shock. I couldn't even scream. I just stared at the screen in disbelief.
The crowds from inside and outside of the stadium went nuts. There were people piling out of their homes filling the streets. It was so bad they closed down I-76 (the Schukyll Expressway), Broad Street, pretty much any street surrounding Citizens Bank Park. The annoucers and reporters on tv were saying "They're not waiting for the parade on Friday. They're holding their own right now."
The parade tomorrow is going to be crazy. It's going to start at 20th and Marke, go down Broad Street, stop at Citty Hall, and continue on to Citizen's Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field (where the Eagles play). Both venues had free tickets to give out to the ceremony, but they sold out quickly. At first I wanted to go down there, but I think I'm going to stay home and watch it on tv.
When the Philadelphia Soul won their championship in July they said they hoped that it would rub off on the four major teams here, too. It took 25 years to get another championship here, but it was worth the wait. Hopefully, the Eagles, Sixers, and Flyers will follow suit.
